It can be a little overwhelming when you start working with clients. Sometimes health fitness professionals begin training clients based on sound biomechanical principles and techniques, but without having established a sufficient base of understanding of who their clients are. Although most practitioners operate with an implicit personality theory when interacting with clients, they can benefit from making explicit the aspects of their clients' characters that are pertinent to training or program designs. The material in chapter 1 of the student text highlights some relevant dimensions of personality and self-concept.
