Here are some of the specific factors related to menopause.

  • Increased risk for cardiovascular disease
  • Decreased bone density
  • Increased negative blood lipid profiles
  • Altered sleep patterns
  • Incontinence
  • Vaginal dryness
  • Hot flashes (or hot flushes)

Not all women will experience all of these symptoms. The combination of symptoms experienced will vary from woman to woman. Mood disturbances and depression are sometimes associated with this stage in life, but research suggests that there is no higher incidence of depression or mood problems during menopause than at any other time in a woman's life.
