Training method

Description

Primary

Focus on technique.

Compromise on speed to improve technique.

Secondary

Improve speed and agility with assisted and resisted sprinting.

Assisted: Improve stride frequency by forcing the body to a faster gravity-assisted sprinting speed.

Resisted: Improve stride length and speed-strength by applying gravity-based resistance during a sprint.

Tertiary

Improve speed and agility through basic fitness, power, and speed-endurance training.

Basic fitness: Any speed or power training must be conducted with individuals who have achieved a foundation level of general fitness (strength, aerobic endurance, mobility).

Power: Train movements in the kinetic chain used in the sport. With sprinting,
-closed chain is primary
-open chain is secondary.

Speed-endurance: Training with sport-specific work-rest intervals based on competition modeling procedures (see page 486 to 487).
