Those are all good ideas. In fact, all of these categories could be included in an eating and exercise log.

All of this information might seem excessive, but it can help you identify patterns in your clients' lives that adversely affect their weight management programs. Your clients may not even be aware that these situations influence how well they stick to their programs.

For instance, a client who exercises right after work might be in a rush to get home, so he cuts the workout short. An eating and exercise log can help explain what's happening.

In analyzing a client's log, you might notice that a client who doesn't eat between lunch and dinner gorges on food when he gets home from working out. He may also leave his workout early because he's hungry. You can modify his exercise and eating behaviors by planning a nutritious snack in the afternoon. He won't be in such a hurry to leave the gym early, his workout will be more effective, and he will avoid binge eating after working out.
